how strong?

RE: how strong?
OK...it retains to the subject. If i felt like throwing it in there why in the hell do you care? And first off, im telling him he could get more out of a STOCK BLOCK by setting it up a little better. Its called TUNING. If you build a better engine, you can get more performance out of the block. If you build a ****ty bottom end, dont exspect to be running 600hp on a stock block. OK, so im not sure why you jumping my *** on this.

i think i misread you the first time. isee what youre saying now. im a little slow today. but i disagree on what you say about the shortblock parts having anything to do with the capacity of the stock block itself. i think a stock block, giving how strong that certain block is, will break when its pushed past the limits of that particular block. one may break at 450 and one may hold 700, but the short block paarts have nothing to do with this in my opinion.

RE: how strong?
i apologize for being an *** in my response. But hey, its your right to disagree...on a stock bottom end; rods, crank, etc. I wouldn't go past 450. On a block i wouldnt psuh it past 550-580. Then there are other years of blocks, such as the 68-72ish 302 blocks can prob. hold 650 before they break.
Short and simple, if your throwing serious boost or nitrous or just wanting to wind it out to 8000, get an aftermarket block. But i still am going to say it has alot to do with the rpms your going to be turning and if your using boost or nitrous.

RE: how strong?
i cant really put what im trying to say in words(slow day) but i think that you cant really put a number on the power a certain stock block can handle. one might blow at 400 and the next might handle 800. but i think a safe guess would be 450. (safe guess) im saying that i wouldnt risk hurting the rest of my motor because i depended on a stock block to hold 550 hp. i think you would come out better just buying a dart or man o war if youre going to go over 450 just to be safe. but i do understand what youre saying about quality of a build helping the block hold its maximum hp.
