Default 5.0 general question

How sturdy is a 5.0 liter?
my cuz has a 5.9 liter 91 GT, 160k miles on it and it runs strong despite few mechanical errors.

If i were to purchase a High mile 5.0liter should i just swap the engine and tranny or would an engine swap be sufficient... drop another 302 engine in there from ford racing perhaps

No 5.9 litre from ford. 5.8 maybe you mean. The 5.0's are a very reziliant motor. Mine has 150k on it and still runs strong w/ no oil consumption.

yea, they're pretty sturdy little motors if kept up, oil changed frequently, etc. Mainly, not run to death. But if you want to see, do a compression check. If you only have a 160k on you engine, i see no need to do a swap. But if its up around 210-220k then you might want to start looking around for a new engine or rebuild the one you got like i did.
I just changed the rings, bearings, valve springs and retainers and put in a bigger cam while the engine was out and bought some cheap 71 302 closed chamber heads and had them ported and polished and had bigger valves put in. But if want to see about your engine the best way to tell is do a compression check, like %5-8% leak down is ok i believe and above %10-12 you are going to have to rebuild, or somthing like that. I think thats pretty close. I havnt done one in about a year so that might be a little off.

Last fall I got a 5.0 ('94) engine from my employer. It had been run in one of our trucks that got wrecked at 220,000 miles. It ran fine until the truck was totaled by a drunk driver.
Measured bores a while back. All within .002 for size and round.
I'll bet yours is just as good..........
