Spark Knock

Spark Knock
I'm having trouble getting rid of the spark knock in my 94 5.0.
Obviously I checked the timing and it was set at 9 (it should be 10, right?). So I advanced it to 10, and then 12 and I still have the spark knock.
What are some other causes of spark knock?
Thanks for your help!

RE: Spark Knock
spark knock????? one you get pinging from to much timing. if you hear knocking its your motor. if anything if your at 10*BTDC and hearing pinging one bad fuel or your dist. is off a few teeth

RE: Spark Knock
spark knock that is like piston return srings only found on really, really very fast cars most of us dont have the pleasure of owning. ohsoq is correct knocking is not caused by spark, but could be a vavle, lifter, rod, get it checked. or maybe you meant pinging, again ohsoq is right.

RE: Spark Knock
it's teeth not tooths*L*.... I agree with above it might be a timing chain..put some 93 in it and see if it quits?..that's where I would start it's the cheapest fix.....if this doesn't retard the time to 6 or so see what happens..we can go from there if this doesn't help
how many miles on this thing????

RE: Spark Knock
Do you hear it on acceleration only? If so then it probably is spark knock. High compression engines have this problem on pump gas. If you are running a stock compression ratio with plugs that you may have other problems. Is it high pitched or a constant metal on metal knock? try retarding the timing. Try higher octane gas. If it goes away then it was also probably Spark Knock. Spark knock can easily destroy pistons and cylinders. This is a problem that should be figured out immediately and not drivin on.
