Default amp light stays on

my amp light is coming on(the one with the battery symbol), My volts runs around like 10v idling ever since i installed my electric fan, i have a 50watt amp that shouldnt even touch the gauge, the bulbs i run are the adanced fake HID 130watt simulated 80 watt actuall bulbs and i dont have fogs. The battery is about 3 months old but i havent done a parasitic draw test cuz i cant seem to find my dvom. I have pulled a lot of the underdash hvac wires when i deleted my heater box. the fan i'm running isnt even that high of amperage but the way I have it running now is hooked up to the ignition wire through a relay. I know i should buy a new thermostatic switch but the one that came with the fan sucked so i just hotwired it. The fan is fine since i put the new rad in today(no overheating anymore). I pulled the power from the fan and ran the car for a bit and when i shut it off the amp light turned off, but when i turned the ign. back on to roll up my windows the light came back on and stayed on with the ign. turned off! Any advice?new batt., new fan thermostatic relay so I'm not running it all the time and upon initial start up? I tend to get long winded(sorry). I need to find my damn DVOM!!!![:@]

i had that problem. the yellow wire coming out of the alternator plug was snapped. it is the voltage indication wire.

so your problem CKYGUY was it just the light coming on cause it sensed a fault or was there actually a problem? The fan is like 2months old and has maybe 500 miles on it so i dont think its the brushes. I dont like the fact that the fan is on and taking amperage while i'm starting the car, but i'm gonna change that soon.

sounds like you might have a bad voltage regulator... Is it made into the alt. or is it a old style.. did you arc any wires when you took out the AC stuff

no maybe you need to put brushes in the alt. not the fan.
