Default 4 banger/gt to 4 banger LX

hey all, I have a 89 Mustang that at one time was a 4 banger, then someone put in a carb'd 302 and made it look like a GT, well the body is a total rusted waste and so I bought a '91 4 banger LX that I plan to put the carb'd 302 in, I have a T-5 for it now, but what else besides the exhuast and maybe the rear end should I try to salvage off the old "GT"?

If the person who did the swap also swapped breaks, grab the front brakes, spindles, and struts. (Rear breaks are identical between the 4 banger and the five-oh). Again, if swapped, the sway bar and springs. I did ths conversion and left the 4 banger springs in, the car sat maybe 1-1 1/2 inches lower, but the ride was too soft for my liking. Also grab the tranny crossmember, so that a dual exhaust system will fit. If the 91 is an auto, grab the driveshaft and pedal assemblies too. Whatever the parts car has for gauges i would grab as well, because the tach won't work, though all the others should. Thats all i can think of now, but i have done the swap so any questions just ask. -GMkilla

well in the old car, none of the gauges worked, should I pull the computer out for the gauges? I am not too sure about the rear end, I haven't been able to find any numbers on it other then 7075, I don't know if its a stock 4 banger rear end or not. My old one has the unibody frame supports welded on it, so I am going to try and cut them off to use on the new one.

One problem with the old car is that the heater and all the vacum lines where yanked out of it, so I have no idea how to hook them up to my carb'd 302. I imagine its a vacum line I have to hook up under the hood?!

Check the sticky up top to get a complete list as to what you need and how to do it.

As far as the vacuum you need to just hook up a vacuum source off the manifold some where to the vacuum tree on your firewall.Thats where all your vacuum signals originate from for heat/air.

As far as gauges go its a matter of installing the sensors through out and wiring them to your existing gauges.I did this swap in my 89 and i left everything disconnected on my dash except the speedo. But i plan to gut the dash and install mechanical gauges instead.

Not really a hard swap but it can be time consuming. But WELL worth it in the end trust me.

GOOD LUCK!If you have a question ask it ive pretty much done it all one time or another.lol
