Well, no there is no egr to help w/ unburned exhaust gases so it should cause detonation theoretically. But lotsa ppl have deleted them w/o problem. What was the reason for taking yours off?

Smog does not do anything with a well tuned car, it only leans out exhaust

I had the CEL comming on and off for a couple af years now on my 91 GT. The code pointed to the EGR. A mechanic suggested I take out the sensor clean the plunger and lightly lube it. Did that a couple of weeks ago and the CEL hasn't come on once yet since.
