Default ***Belt Tentioner Pully Please Help***

Ok I have a 1988 Mustang 5.0 302 Fuel Injected... Ok so today I replaced the water pump and that went well, when I finally put everything back together the last step was to put the belt back on, so I put it on and it didn't seem like the belt was on the tentioner like it was about a hair or so off, so I figured being the Idiot that I was, to try and start up the car and see if maybe the belt would go on a little better, little did I know the belt I guess was put on to tight I guess which caused the belt tentioner pully to be somewhat bent and now I can no longer use it, so now I have to get a new one... Could I just buy the pully part that goes to the belt tentioner instead of buying the whole unit? Also I bought I shorter belt, so that I could take off the A/C compressor because I no longer needed it anyways, tried putting that belt on but it wouldn't fit so I put the origonal back on with the A/C compressor back on and that's when the pully got all messed up, I did however notice a squeeking sound that belt would make if something was up and that's when the belt tentioner sh** to bed.... Any help would be great, sorry for the long post but I need help... Thanks guy's... Later.

Take the tensioner off and use a piece of string to measure the approximate length you need. Get as close to that size as possible. take the top bolt off your alt and put the belt on then use your alt as the tensioner by pulling it towards the passenger fender and screwing the bolt in on the outside of the bracket hole. This will work temporary, but get a tensioner soon.

ok thanx for the info.... I plan on getting a new tentioner, but could I also just buy the pully wheel alone from somewhere for the belt tentioner? Just wondering, cuz if thats an easy route I probably will do that instead of buying the whole unit... also what would be the belt size if I delete that A/C compressor? Any help would be great, and thanks guys for the replies.. I appreciate it in a big way... :-)

it's all set finally completed the mission, although I ran into an accidental situation, lets just say I ended up getting hurt during the process of putting the belt back on, But I must say it's going to leave me a scar, and it was a pretty deep wound, which sucks but it's healing and I will be alright, but other than that the car is all set. thanks guy's for the help and info, I appreciate it.
