Painting my car...
Hey, i was wondering if anyone knew of some good places to go for paint job. Don't really wanna go to Macco. I only need my door painted but not sure if i should just go ahead and paint the whole thing cause there are a few little places that could use some touching up. Anyone know a rough estimate on how much it might cost to paint whole car? My car is metallic grey (88 5.0). I think it is a factory color.

I don't where you can take the car, but in my opinion I would not repaint the whole car if the original paint is still in good shape. You'll have to spend a lot of money to get as good a paint job as factory paint. I would check into getting the door painted and see what can be done to fix the other nicks. Remember you get what you pay for especially when it comes to body work.

well a decent paint job is like 1500.00 or so and up....so some guys paint on the side and a great paint job can be had for 500-1000 bucks on how much you do the prep work and paint you use....paint the door won't be to much but you have to "blend' the fender and quarter for a much better match.....hope this helps

A "good" paint job on your car will cost less than a grand in materials, so anything over that is labor. Keep that in mind when you get prices. If he was figuring in the body work, depending on the extent which is needed, it's probably about right. Labor is expensive. Also make sure wherever you get your car painted uses a basecoat/clearcoat system, and not single stage. B/C is much more durable than SS, and finishes nicer.

I got the earl schieb job once looked ok for how cheep it was sold the car saw it 2 years later 50% of the paint on the roof, hood & trunk was gone.
I have had good luck with maaco but you have to prep the car yourself wet sand the whole car if you have any imperfections the new paint will show it tem fold. After that every maaco is different go & look at the cars that they just painted & see how they look I know here in NJ the rockaway one does a good job & the one in pine brook does a lousy job & I have had maaco jobs look good after 5 years. its all in the prep.
