Default Help on mustang project

I recently bought a 85 mustang coupe (4 cyl). It has no motor or tranny. I want to get this car on the road. im not really in a hurry, beacause I have a daily driver. I want to make me a toy. I would like to get some opinions on how you would build the motor from bare block up, staying carbed. I already have the block , and it is stripped completly down. the car is completly stripped firewall up (except suspension, steering and brakes) this is what I am planning:

Running 302 - 82 f150
Port and polish heads--also 82 f150
Bore .30 over w/ rebuild kit from summit (FEM-MHP174-300) cheap kit I think its like $300
Stock 351 camshaft $50
Edelbrock Air Gap intake
Edelbrock Performer 600cfm carb
Stock 4cyl wiring harness

All the misc. parts like lifters, fuel pump, timing chain and gears, distributor, waterpump, radiator, I plan on getting from Advance Auto (employee discount)

Transmission - still unsure thing of simple c4 or something wanna stay auto

Do I have to loose the 4 cyl reaerend?

What Do I have to do to the suspension?

The block and heads I plan on getting machined locally for $650 (includes dipping, main bearing, rod bearings, cam bearings, torque plate, and boring .030 over)

I would like to hear yor comments on what you would do and what you think about my plans

Yeah, you're going to want to put in an 8.8 rear from an 86-93 mustang if you want to stay 4 lug for now. You can, of course go with a later 8.8 which would make for an easy conversion to 5 lug and disc -- or just get the parts from it and swap brakes later into the earlier rear. You're going to want to get at the bare minimum, 87-93 V8 spindles so you can put the bigger v8 brakes on it. Those are really inadequate for even a mildly modified mustang so it may be advisable to get all the 5 lug and disc stuff and convert it the first time. If you go that route, you'll want to get the booster and master cylinder and related stuff for later modification.

You could use the 4 cyl springs for good transfer or get a set of v8 springs, depending on your project focus (drag, handling, street, etc.). Sway bar is bigger but, again -- depending on your focus, you may not care.

That's all I can think of right now, off of the top of my head...

none probably a dump truck torque grind as we all know the weezor is dump truck motor. Never a real performance oriented factory offering. Use it as a paperweight
