more power without adding more fuel. you dont have to give it as much throttle to go the same speed. but of course most people get so excited to have a few extra hp they cant keep their foot out of it and get **** poor milage

the spark happening at a better time during the cylinders compression so fuel burns more evenly,
and more of the energy from the gas is used?

The reason you get more power is becuase you are adjusting the *'s Before Top Dead Center that your plugs fire. 10* is stock setting. Most people set at 14* so it fires sooner. What this does it ignite the fuel sooner. The closer you can get it to TDC the better because it will push down harder on the piston. If you do it to early you get detination and that is not good either. Detination is where the Piston is still on the way up and you ignite the fuel and it tries to force the piston back down while it is still traveling up.

its 10° advanced... instead of 0
