Well, its an AOD (someone correct my if Im wrong but I dont think I am) and they are not the best transmissions stock. Basically, they are built to the specs of the car stock. YES you can take it over the limit but you can only get them to handle so much.

I dont think its an AOD. I think the the AOD's only came with 302's. My early fox bodied cars that were auto came with C-3's, which WILL NOT bolt up to a 302. Your best bet is to find an AOD (if you want to keep it auto), or get a T-5 5 speed, for the 5 spd, youll need the harmonic balancer, flywheel, the bellhousing (if the trans doesnt come with it), shifter handle, the clutch and brake pedal assembly, a clutch cable, clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, and the clutch engagment rod/fork (forgot the technical name for it).

well ****. i would much rather it be a 5 speed but i dont want to go through all the work and money to change it if my tranny can bolt up to it. but if you say it wont...then ****.
i'll have to check the ID number on it and come back to you guys. its rainin outside right now so i cant see me crawling under tonight, but does anyone knwo where it is on the tranny? and my door id stamp has been painted over by the moronic previous owner.
