Hi I didn't want to start another thread so I will ask in here. What exactly does gears do for your car. I have stock gears in a 92 LX 5.0L manual and all i hear was 3.73 is great. I basically use my car for everyday driving and on highway as well. Whats the advantage of higher gear ratio.

Thanks in advance

your not supposed to hijack threads like that lol, it would have been better to start a new one.

the easy way of explaining it is, gears give you more bottom end, and take away from your top end speed.

you will go faster off the line but wont top out as fast.

2.73 are the most common stock gear, and numerically higher values make the change more dramatic.

3.73's will give you a decent amount more off the line, and a little less top end,

compared to comething like 4.10's which will give you a lot more off the line, and take a lot off your top end.

gears also change the rpm your car revs at different speed, the higher the numerical gear your running,

the higher it will rev at diferent speeds.

Great info thanks. So for my application say 3.55 will do? or should I just go for 3.73? Also do you know the going rate for a garage to install them?

Thanks again

A pretty big difference. I am about to go from 2.73's to 4.10's in my auto. It should be interesting. Since I dont have the money to go to the track I am going to use my G Tech and see what the difference is. Its not the most accurate thing in the world but its better than nothing.
