Wont stop trying to start

RE: Wont stop trying to start
Yeah I was searching and saw that post, but how would I know if its hooked up backwards? There are only bolt holes on the left side of it and I am thinking the starter cable is hooked up on the left (closest to the battery) and the hot is on the right.

i'm having the same problems out of mine.....it is the bendix in the starter...which is what pulls the gear out the mesh with the flywheel.....either get it rebuilt, or if you have a cheap-o autozone starter...like i did...swap it out under warranty.....good luck man....

It shouldn't matter which of the 2 large posts you hook things up on as long as the starter wire (stock 1 wire starter, I'm assuming) is on the opposite side from the 12V. The starter cable should be the only thing on one post; everything else goes on the other.
I bought a new starter solenoid and the directions said to hook it up w/ the starter cable on the firewall side and everything else on the other post. I put it back like it was stock b/c that's what I was used to and it runs fine.
I would look at your starter relay and your ignition switch or ignition relay.....

RE: Wont stop trying to start
How do I go about checking the ignition switch? I tried testing it to see if it was hanging in the start position by sticking a test light in the end of the trigger wire and switching the ignition on to the start positon and then back off severl times (getto way..I know) the wire seems to always have power going through it when the ignition is in the run position but then when you switch it to the start position the light comes on bright,
I guess the question is should the trigger wire have power when the switch is not in the start position?
