RE: how the heck does oil pan come off!?
Pulling the motor is not something I feel comfortable doing. The motor is not level and I can't find a place to hook up my load leveler in the back.

Don't pull the motor. That rod you're talking about is the distributor gear. Slip it out carefully, and the pump should come down. It's a hassle but alot easier than pulling a motor if you haven't pulled it before.
You can jack up the engine slowly, making sure no wires or hoses get pinched. Otherwise you'll be creating more problems!

nah thats bad advice. it sounds like hes never done a oil pan reseal before so i wouldnt even mess with pulling the engine. then you'll have to worry about a bunch of other ****. harness, exhaust, trans, ect.

been there and done that, the oil pump has to be removed before the pan will come out and Id recc just pulling the engine, took me 5 hours of pain with engine in.
another problem is the crankshaft inteferring with the pan removal and the radiator becoming damaged.
