Default RE: b question o' the day

So having oil on the crank slows it down and robs Hp...?
Doesnt it need to be lubed up?

the crank is not dependant upon oil splash, this is why the crank journals are cross drilled and get oil from the mains. The only part of the crank that needs oil are the main and rod journals and those are fed from the mains

Obviously it needs lubrication, but oil builds up very quickly & creates drag. Drag=lost power.

Ford was smart back in the 70's, a 351C 4V had a windage tray built into the oil pan
