gt40 heads?

RE: gt40 heads?
there are more than 2 kinds
GT-40 = old cast iron head, not much better than stock
GT-40P = came off explorers, little better than reg. GT40, problems with spark plugs and headers
GT-40X = $1000 aluminum head, MUCH better then stock.
GT-40Y = similar to GT40X just not as good
GT-40Z = aluminum race head
P's are ok, but can be a pain in the *** to match headers to.
www.thumperoforangepark.com has some nice ported heads that
flow with GT-40X heads for like $600

RE: gt40 heads?
it's the shape of the header that matters on the P's
the spark plugs get in the way on some headers, some work some dont.

RE: gt40 heads?
The sales pitch at Thumper claims they can make stock E7TEs 'out perform out-of-the-box GT40 series' heads. I doubt they mean the aluminum y303 or the x303 GT-40's. And if they did, I wouldn't believe it. It would be shocking enough if they could get those boat anchors to flow as good as the GT-40 Iron or GT-40P without melting them down and re-casting.
