radiator problem

RE: radiator problem
That would be a good place to start! If your not seeing any fluid on the ground I doubt it is going to be your radiator! 7 inches down is a lot of water i cant believe you dont either see it on the ground, in your oil, or white smoke coming out the exhaust!
When your filling it up are you letting the car run while you put the water into the radiator? Cause if not your not going to fill the whole system up, only the radiator.
Let it run and keep filling it up until no more water will fit into the raditator, then let it run with the cap loose to let all the air out. Let it get warm like that.
And if your mixing 50/50 water/anitfreeze...if its leaking your going to notice it as being that lime green color you know?
Im baffled, if its not being burned, not in your oil, not leaking into the floor pan and its not on the ground...where the hell is it going?

RE: radiator problem
Since your overflow is ghetto rigged, could possibly be catching the antifreeze during normal operating temperatures but not allowing the pickup hose to pull the antifreeze back as it cools back down, causing your radiator to always be low on antifreeze. Also, and discoloration on the core? You could have some small leaks, but I don't think it would equal out to the amount of antifreeze loss you are describing. The only other thing I could think of is if your tank on the radiator is cracked. Which if thats the case, you should still see some antifreeze leaking out from somewhere. I would start with the overflow.

RE: radiator problem
whenever i put coolant into my radiator, the car has been off and cool because i didnt want to risk getting burned from the coolant.
so i should turn the car on with the cap off and fill it up until its to the top??? now i do this on a completely cold car correct? how long after the radiator is filled should i wait to turn off the car and put the cap back on? or do i put the cap back on before i turn off the car?
man im just lost in why my fluid keeps lowering down. i believe thats whats causing my engine not to stay around 180-195*.

RE: radiator problem
plus while running ive looked at everything to do with my cooling system. nothing leaks or has residue. the hoses are fine with a reasonable amount of hardness so i know that they are not going bad. i think if they were going bad they would be soft. if i had my radiator leaking it'd be green right? nothing is on the ground.
