Most cars have the same shift pattern, unless you learn on a German car. Their reverse is in a different location (at least BMW and VW). The only thing about mustangs is that they are a little notchy.

By notchy I mean when shifting into gear it kinda pops in. It's no big deal at all it's just different. I'm comparing to a Toyota I drove. It shifted smooth. (I perfer notchy, it feels less gay)

I would say the main thing to look for on a mustang is that it hasn't been beaten to death. The main problem with mustangs is that it is hard to find one that hasn't been modified and raced to death. I don't know of any universal problems they have other than the manual transmissions are a little weak. You have to remember that the newest 5.0 is 10 years old, which is not a problem it the car was taken care of and or modified properly.

I think the biggest differnce you will notice is just that the clutch is A LOT stiffer then an import, i learned on an eagle talon then i switched over to my 95 gt, at first it will seem strange but after a while you iwll love the stiff clutch. like he said though the gear pattern for almost all cars in america is the same.
