The link for http://www.atlantamustangclub.com/de...NewsItemID=326 says to NOT clear coat interior panels right at the bottom of the article. Any thoughts on that, as it disagrees with a majority of the posts in this thread?

did u use silicone wax and grease remover? u must use that before u ever sand! the link is backwards on the prep procedure. wash with a good grease cutting soap like dawn etc. then wash it again again, and again! then wax and greaser it! wipe on with one rag then wipe dry with another do this a million times!!!!!!!!!!!!! if not u sanded contaminents into the plastic and they will be inthe sanding scratches and it will have a hard time sticking! also u can buy flat clear from an autobody store alot of the hot rodders use it on there street rods for the vintage flat look but with the durability of a 2 stage modern system
Yeah, I followed this procedure (without the sand paper) and it worked perfectly. I first used soapy water and then SEM's plastic prep and the finish lasted on my dash until I removed it (long story - custom dash...).

It was perfect and never wore off and didn't scratch off.

Don't try to cover it all in one coat. It dries quickly and can be resprayed in 15 mins, I think. Light coats will prevent that. I know what you're saying about the lighting and trying to paint a black panel...you're best bet is to do light coatings in such a manner that you systematically cover the whole thing. I like to start at one end (off of the actual piece) and move laterally until you end off of the piece.

spray some more paint on it and let it get soft but not dry and press a towel in it it will give a grain apperance

That's a good tip. If that doesn't work, SEM makes texture paint that comes out like a bed liner. You can knock it down with sand paper to whatever depth you want...That would be a LAST resort but it does work (I have it and have personal knowledge with it on matching custom panels to OEM panels). If you are going to go that route, you should learn how to use it and get a handle on it by applying it on some scrap MDF or something.

also u could buy some peeler and spray that on the parts but u gotta clean the area afterwards with water(basically aircraft stripper in an aresol can) not supposed to harm primer though used for stripping bumper cover etc.
