88 mustang with 175k
i gotta mustang with 175k on it, and im not going to drive it for a while, so i was going to rebuild the motor... i have minimal cash, but lots of time... i was just going to take the heads off, and then start thinking from there... i know i want new heads... and i was wondering what would be a good cam to go with, i want to get the most hp i can out of just heads cam and intake, and headers... and anything else i can think of... could some people tell me a good setup to go with from scratch... i also gotta friend that owns a machine shop, so i was going to bore it out to a 306... well any thoughts would be helpful... thanks

just heads, cam, intake, and headers.....thats pretty much everything right there thats where the majority of cash goes to.... you might as well save up ~$2000 and get a trick flow street heat engine kit(heads, intake, cam, timing chain, small parts and gaskets) and have ~350hp with a 306....

just a though ..why not drive the car and have fun with it while you build your engine..block are still easy to get so you can take your time in building what ya want...first you need to still down and ask yourself what you REALLY want from the car and build it...you can go ahead and buy things like pistions which you need before you bore a block anyway..cam you need a daul pattern cam anything less and you not getting all you can for your $$$..I would pass of TRICK FLOW HEADS and find your self a nice used 185 AFR'S out the box they work great for any street car

RE: 88 mustang with 175k
im sorry that i did not mention that i have to keep it smog legal... i was wondering how much hp i could get out of smog legal heads and the biggest cam i can go with.. and intake... or should i just build this motor up stock again, smog it, and register it in another county where i dont need smog and just go all off road parts? the reason im doing this now instead of doing it when the engine goes, is the car is just not fun anymore... its not all that fast, and whats the use of having a mustang when its not that fast... so i want to make it faster... thats the main reason

well if you need smog legal than this might be your approach
flat top pistions
gt-40 intake (gasket match porting)
afr 165 heads
equal length header
501-512 cam with a 112 centerline
65mm T/B
76MM maf
timing at 0 degrees when tested 16 when driving
a PMS system
24 pound injectors
kirban fuel regulator
190 pump
an adjustable NX nitrous kits
flat top pistions
gt-40 intake (gasket match porting)

RE: 88 mustang with 175k
that sounds like the perfect setup, exept, could i go with bigger heads? like afr 185's? and is that intake a good one? or could i spend a little more money and get a better smog legal one?

with this exact setup... would that rang from about 400hp with the nitrous?
