Default motor build question

hows it going? this would be my first post so hope it isnt a repost of any type! well just picked up my 90 gt its got a blown motor and im kindof stuck debating on what set up i should go with.i plan on running nitrous and dont have tons of dough to slap down on it right away would a factory rebuild be fine or should i go with forged pistons and was also thinking of doing the 347 kit but dont know if its worth the money?i want to get into the 11's.so far its got a rbuilt rear with posi and 410 gears and a level 1 aod built by amp. the only bolt ons i have for it right now are shorty headers, off road h pipe, cold air (not fenderwell) and a "nos" nitrous kit. and as far as how much of a shot. i guess whatever it takes to get to my goal.

Default RE: motor build question

Alright, I'm gonna tell you EVERYTHING I know about this subject: which is not much at all, infact I'm not even sure about 85% of it, but it's what I've read around on the net looking at stuff.

If you're going to build a 347 stroker, don't expect alot of mileage out of it. What I have read is that they developed the 331 (which delivers close to the same amount of power generally) because they weren't getting the life they planned out of the 347 kits. BUT- as the saying goes- There's no replacement for displacement... which means that the 347 is the king of that race.

What I would do would be this if you want to do a CHEAP, fast car, possibly throwing drivability out the window:
Convert to carb if it isn't already
Buy a good carb intake- Victor or Victor Jr. intake comes to mind.
Buy a set of hi-flow heads, aluminum for weight reduction also, but you can also get really good performance out of some iron heads (World, Roush, etc)
Buy a cam to go with the heads - do some research... there's ALOT to understand about this subject... as far as I know also- you're best off getting a custom cam to get it to your specs.
Good Torque converter (read up on here, I don't know ANYTHING about those)
and a nice stall.
Supercharge it- Buy a Roots charger from summit or kennebell for the carbed 302, they're not too expensive and put out good boost.
For suspension go to www.maximummotorsports.com or a sponsor. There's TONS of GREAT stuff all over the place but do homework first. MM is supposed to be the cream of the crop.

If you want to stroke it, I'm assuming emissions mean nothing, so the carb shouldn't be a problem, neither should anything else.

Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of any more help.

Well, basically every year fox v8 stang from 86-92 had forged pistons. The '93+ have hypereutectic and from -84 they were sandcast.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't put nitrous through my engine at all, but alas many people here do anyway with little or no ill effect. I suppose, like everything, it's all in the tune.

I wouldn't put a 150 shot through, max at 125 if there is such a thing, but I think a few people here have. Sorry I can't help more, man.

I have a 331 and it was worth every penny! If nitrous is what you want go for it, just remember you have to keep filling that bottle but the blower is always there. I had nitrous on my stock 302 for a long time and never hurt a thing. When I took it out to put the 331 in, it was still running just fine. I tried to spray 150 and it was a ride in high gear but I could never hook it up in first or second so I had to settle for the 125. My friend has a stock short block 302 with TFS twisted wedge heads, TFS track heat intake, a custom grind nitrous cam in a 3400 pound car with a 5 speed, 3.73 gears, drag radials and the Trick Flow nitrous kit. His first time on the dragstrip he ran 11.90 @ 115, with some more seat time that will get alot better. So there's a combo to go by.
