detonation and CEL!!
So i was coming home from work the other day and decided to get on it a little bit.
it got to about 3500 rpm in second gear at half throttle when i heard loud detonation coming from the left side accompanied by a bad smell and lots of smoke.
then my check engine light came on. (it had been turning on/off prior)
my car has been running fine since if i'm easy but wil start to detonate again under load. i have not messed with the timing and can't verify it right now b/c i don't have a light.
i pulled plugs this morning and they all seem a bit lean except for number 6 which is extremely white. i guess that cylinder is detonating? why only that one?
also i tried to get my codes pulled but autozone and advance say they only do 96 and up[&:] (OBD II)
where can i get them pulled? NAPA?
thanks all!

RE: detonation and CEL!!
you can pull the codes yourself by jumping a small plug on the driver firewall
and then counting the flashes of the CEL to get the code number.
the computer can run a cylinder check thru this also where it will turn on and off
each cylinder and check make sure they are all firing properly.
Here's how you do it

thats the link you need.
