Hey guys. My friend and I both have 5.0 Mustangs (fox bodies) that we need to do the 3G upgrade to both of our cars. I'm going to buy the alternators off of e-bay. Is it only inportant for me to get the alternator itself and get the plug with it? Or what else do I need. I want to order these today so any help is awesome. Thanks.

Nope. YOu'll use the regulator plug off' your own harness, and you'll cut off the 2-10 gauge ends and put on eyelets to bolt to your new alt.

I have heard that alternators from Tauri (plural for Taurus? lol) and Sables work for this upgrade. What year and what engine size does it need to be? I can get one from a a 97 taurus with the 3 liter v6 for a decent price. My girlfriend wants to get it for me for my birthday, which is Saturday. Thanks for all of the input!

Run a separate 4G stereo wire with a 175A inline ANL (or similar) type fuse from the lug of the alternator to the solenoid instead of cutting off the (2) small 10G wires. Leave the factory connector alone. Then remove a small section of the insulation (do not cut the wire) and soldier in the single plug wire into the factory harness. This way, in a pinch, if you ever need to hook up a factory alt the factory plug is still there and usable.

i just bought my alt at autozone just iun case anything happens to it i have a warranty it was 165

I'm shooting for $45 man, lol. It comes with a 2 week warranty so I'll get it, install it quick and if it works keep it, if it doesn't get a new one. But does anyone know the details on the Taurus/Sable alternator?
