It opens up your intake and exhaust flow so your engine can breath better

You match the port sizes up to that gasets and make them equal in size to help it flow(that is a basic port and polish). To do this you will need a grinder or dremel, but it can be done....do a little reseach on it, you will be suprised at what you can find out.

Port and polish will improve the flow of gas/air into and exhaust out of your engine, thus improving performance... If it's not done right, it will disrupt the flow and drop the performance...

be careful porting. Ive seen guys get reverse effect from over porting. Someone on here gave a perfect example of the effects of over porting. It like have a straw attached to a 2 inch pipe and trying to get sufficient air to flow through.

I ported my heads myself, not just gasket matching I did a full valve bowl and combustion chamber port, gained 31% improvement in the intake at .700" lift and 27% percent on exhaust at .705" lift (pretty sure that’s how you express it) and I did it for my high school senior project. It can be done, take it to a machine shop and tell them your gonna challenge yourself.. Ask the guy to do and example intake and exhaust port for you to use as a guide, then with a micrometer and probably a feeler gauge make every other port identical to his example. I did this and had to document & take photos of it all and write a research paper related to it in order to graduate from my Fusking HIgh school. It time consuming tho, I dont know if I woulda done it if it wasnt a project, the assigned project had to be over 20hrs and I spet about 190-200 hours doing this so be ready.
