alphabetical cams are outdated but an improvement over stock for sure, as for the bore typically going to 306 is just to clean the cylinder walls if they need it, if they dont then dont bother, heads will gove you the highest perfomance gains but you'll need to upgrade the intake, TB, MAF to supply enough air for them to be effective, a set of GT40 heads can be bought on ebay for $400-$500 in most cases, look into it!

i agree with the alpha. cams. u could get a better one, just get a custom. but i have an f cam and its not bad. unfortunately i also still have the stock heads with some porting (nothing special). heads with that cam will def be a lot better cuz the stockies are terrible! but that cam has some pretty good power up top. wait till bout 3k or so and she'll pull real good

If you already have the cam, I wouldn't worry about it unless you are going to want something more aggressive down the road. Like stated above, boring over .030 (306) is only to clean/straighten the cylinder walls...hp gains will be doubtful. As for heads, TW's or AFR's are very good if you have the $. If your budget is tighter, then look for some GT40 or GT40P heads. They flow almost as well as the GT40X aluminum heads, but will be much cheaper. Here is more info for a budget-minded build:

E7's (stock)-- You can port them yourself to make them flow better. I used a Dremel for mine...it takes a lot of time, but it's the cheapest alternative. A machine shop can clean them up and do a 3-angle vavle job for pretty cheap. I went w/ the Crane valve spring kit for mine w/ the E cam and 1.72's.

GT40's-- Will usually outflow ported E7's (depending on the extent of porting). If you have a Dremel, you can open them up a little and smooth rough edges, as well as grind down the thermactor bumps on the exhaust ports...this will make them flow much better.

P's--Very similar to GT40's but flow better w/o porting up to ~.500 lift. You will most likely need different headers for the P heads. FRPP shorties will work and most long tubes (basically any header that comes straight out from the block farther than stock before the primaries turn down to the collector).

No need for a custom cam with just a basic set up, H/C/I set up, its a waste of money, spend it elsewhere. The F cam is outdated but i have one and i know above 3,100rpm's, it pulls like a beast for an older cam. Its good bang for the buck imo.

But also consider a B cam with 1.7's. Thats a great set up, better drivability than a F cam for sure also.

My vote also goes for the GT-40's, id try to veare away from the P's though, the spark plug problem is kinda annoying, not a real problem, but still annoying, just go with some standard GT40's instead.
