5.0 wireing in 67 stang
hi all
i have a 1967 convert.
want to put late mod. 5.0 fuel injected - a.o.d. in.
have seen that this is a doable swap.
however ideally i would like to utalise the doner car. wireing loom (complete) in place of the original (troublesom) wireing in my stang.
is anyone aware of wether this can, or has been done?
i have thought of posible problems such as, computer sensors looking for items like air bags,
anti-skid brakes, etc.
would this actually be a problem "useing doner car wireing?"
i was looking at 1994 thunderbird as a doner. can get low mi. for around $1000
solutions?
thanks
bob

Same boat i'm in my friend.. My wiring is from an 88 Mustang.. You don't need the in dash wiring, or anything like that. What you need is the injector harness, and the main engine harness.. Put the computer in the 67 (Behind the glove box on the cowl is where mine is going) and I BELIEVE It's only a couple of wires to splice. I can think of ignition, and solonoid.. ANd theres probably a couple more. People sell complete ready to go wiring harness for the swap, but for $600, I'm sure I'll be able to thnk of a way to wire it up. I think the main things are shortening and lenghtening stuff.. They also talk about blocking off sensors that aren't used, and I'm not sure which ones they speak of, as I can't think of any.. You will also need to install o2 sensors, a fuel return line to your gas tank, and an interia cutoff switch, and a fuel pump, and probably a couple more things. What I realized hwen I took the 5.0 out of an 88, is the alternator harness is part of the headlight harness on a fox body. We won't be using this, and I think our best option is to throw that alternator out and get an older style alternator with 1 wire and wire it in directly, or some such variant.

94 t-bird is a 4.6l... if you want a 5.0 ho t-bird i got a doner car with a aod it was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago.. and the bottom end of the 5.0 was rebuilt 20,000 miles ago.

hey thanks john.
the reasion i am interested in useing the entire late modle harness is to:
1. get rid of the brittle short infested original wireing.
2. use, and be able to "plug in" electric window, power locks, cruse controal, power seats, etc. from doner.
3. use doner air, heater.
and yes frdmstng,
i do not want the 4.6.
thanks

i just wanted to let you know it was a 4.6l.. i had a t-bird before the mustang so i am kinda well versed in the t-bird as well.. 93 was the last year for the 5.0 ho.... just to let you know the abs comp is seperate from the engine computer in the birds so you dont have to worry about that.. and everything you want to use.. my doner would come with.. lol.. and it's olny 300 bucks for the whole car.lol. just throwwing it out there for ya.. you probably already got most of wahat you need though. so.. if you need any more help man dont hesitate to ask.

Not sure about the interior stuff.. I plan on just using the stock harness on the inside. Actually, thats not true.. Since mine is old and brittle, I plan on getting some aftermarket gauges and putting them in a 1967 aluminum cluster.. And then HOPEFULLY I'll be able to wire everything else myself even if I have to make my own plugs and what not.. Not taht I've thought too hard about this.. What a stinkin money pit. Remind me next time to buy more than a shell.. I won't be working on my engine for at least a month when I can afford a rear end (I have an open 8", and it's of no use to me) so I can roll it down into my driveway to install the engine. If you get to work on it before that, keep me updated!
