if you have never repaired a rust hole , do not attempt it, life long injuries are very easy to your skin, lungs and eyes.

I dont believe in folks that cut around the hole and then rivet a piece of tin in its, place; thats 1940 ;s body work.

I cut the rusted portion out to good metal, weld a piece of aluminum in its place(aka a piece of metal from a old car door cut and beaten to conform shape), grind my welds down, putty area to hide blemishes and sand, primer and paint or just undercoat.

you can rent an welder mig or tig at any tool rental company for $25-$49 for 4 hours, and get a piece of scrap aluminum free at any salvage yard or recylcling facility,( I paid $2.00 for a big piece of 1/4in scrap aluminum)
Ummm... no you don't. You either just lied.. made a typo.. or can't tell aluminum from steel.. as you can't weld aluminum to steel.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Can't believe somebody didn't jump on that sooner. Unless you have a Delorean...[8D] Try living up here in Indiana- things rust out so fast it's insane. My '94 F250 is getting cancer pretty bad, but my mustang doesn't have any whatsoever on the body panels...must have been garaged in the winters for sure.

Luckly my car is from Texas no rusty floorboards. If it was me I would just buy the correct floodboard patch from 5.0 resto or somewhere. Then cut the area out, prep the new pan then take it and get it welded in by someone who knows how to weld. Remeber this is a big part of the structure of your car you want it done right so it will be strong enough to handle the torque the care puts on it. So don't just go get so aluminum from a junk yard....(WOW)! Fix it right the first time and you will never need to worry about it again.

Good Luck

asaeur: what part if Indiana are you from? I'm in Indy.

Definately need to weld steel onto steel and don't try to tig weld unless you really know how to. mig welding will do you just fine. Other than that good luck. I wish I knew where to get some of that stuff that is being talked about up there. I hate to weld and it sounds so much better. Can't burn through the floors with it.

there are exact replacments from ford, certi-fit (other body suppy etc) for around $100. weld them in and it still looks factory. if you dont weld you can gut the old floor about an inch 1/2 short of the new peices and use body panel epoxy (bosy shops use it now instead of welding). its pretty expensive (around $40) and only comes from body/ paint stores but is as strong as welding. $150 and a few hours is all it takes to fix it right.

Man if it is very bad, just cut out the stock floor pans and replace the entire things with new ones from somewhere like 50resto.com. I've got a hole about an inch big under the driver seat rear bracket (bracket is gone). I found the panels for $114 each. Not too bad to replace the entire floor. Seems like the best way to do it. And if you think you got rust, check out my car. The underside looks pretty nasty and I'm gonna have to make two patch panels in the engine compartment. Got a hole on each side that my hand will fit through. [sm=headbang.gif]
