Default Motor Swap question

ok so my 91 LX has the 2.3 with an auto trans....I guess I have 2 questions.

first: I've decided I want to keep an auto tranny in the car, to make it driveable for my wife, I'm not a patient person so teaching her stick would be near impossible. If I throw a stock 5.0 in the car, will it bolt up to the existing trans, and will it handle the extra HP for about a year or so till I get the $$$ to build the motor I want and buy a trans to handle around 500 RWHP.

econd question is about the motor swap. HOw much cutting and welding is involved? Also, who makes the best kit for the swap?

There should be NO cutting or welding involved in a 4cyl to V8 swap. Google search 4cy to v8 swap and you will get a sh*tload of good tech articles that will tell you exactally what needs to be changed.

Also, Im pretty sure that the tranny will bolt up but it might be a little different. I would say about 2k for a auto tranny to hold 500rwhp. Unless you would be interested in a C4 which is alot cheaper but has no overdrive.

^^^x2 on what Blue said. The four banger T5's aren't rated the same as the V8's, so I'd imagine the auto's are the same.... You'll want to get some 4.10's for that thing.

If you plan on decent numbers, ditch the factory 7.5 rear and pick up a 8.8.

+1 Its not really necessary but you should. If I were you I would just run it until it blew and than worry about it. I wouldnt replace it until it needed to be replaced. Most of the time you can pick up 8.8's pretty cheap local or at junkyards. I have seen 8.8's with gears installed sell for like 300 bucks. I wish I just did that instead of buying gears and now looking for someone to install them! [:@]
