5.0L MAF Swap Question/Problem

5.0L MAF Swap Question/Problem
I recently upgraded my intake (upper/lower) to an Edelbrock Performer RPM, 24lb. injectors, bigger fuel rail, 70MM TB/EGR plate, air intake, exhaust, chip, amongst other little things. I now need to upgrade my MAF to accomodate all these upgrades. I was told that i can use an 80mm Ford Taurus SHO MAF or Ford Lightning 80MM MAF that is calibrated for 24lb injectors. Is this true? What is the best upgrade that i can use for a reasonable price? Right now i have the stock MAF in and it is killing my gas mileage as it is not giving the correct ratio to the motor. I can get a 80mm SHO MAF for around $20 brand new, but i dont want to get it if i dont need it. Please help me here.

RE: 5.0L MAF Swap Question/Problem
I would love to hear how the SHO MAF works, but odds are it won't work well. The car may not even run.
There is no such thing as a Ford MAF that is calibrated to an injector size.
All of the Ford MAF calibrations are in the computer. The injectors have their own calibrations.
With 24lb injectors, you have no choice but to spring for an aftermarket MAF or get a custom tune.
With a custom tune you could run ANY MAF you want. The Lightning MAF has the best reputation, and is pretty cheap.
If you go aftermarket, make sure the MAF is for your computer and injectors.

PS -
If you are having fuel economy issues, it is a good idea to pull the codes.
If you don't have a scanner, check my sig for a link.
It may be due strictly to the MAF/Injector mismatch, but a check of the codes is worth the time.
