yah it ran fine for over an hour... well i don't know if it was FINE...but it ran. then i turned it off and tried to restart it and it was DEAD. then i took the key out and it made some wierd little noise for a few seconds. and what is a volatge regulator? and is it hard to fix?

describe the noise.
And your voltage regulator is the thing that stops the juice from being pulled from battery. it leaves the charge in the battery for next time you start it. On your 86 it should be on the alternator but that year was the year for the big switch to fuel injection. So check on the back of your alternator and see if there a black plugin or if theres just two wires running to the alternator. if there just two lone wires, then the volt regulator is on one of the fender wells. Its one of the aluminum boxes with a plug. not the one that says duraspark, thats your ignition. check the other one that says nothing

The Cylinoid could be going bad. mine did that then it started starting at 55 mph when it fried. tore all the teeth off the starter. Did you find your voltage reg?

no i haven't looked yet its dark outside... is it that thing connected to the distributor kinda above the solenoid? or what is that thing? and i think i'm just gonna get someone to get this car running w/o dying and im gonna put it in the paper i'm not putting up with this all winter lol.

i dont know about all engines but, i think its this way on most engines its this way on my dads trucks 5.0: the heat for the a/c comes off then engine, through 2 hoses then it goes into the system and into the vents...or something like that, if you have those hoses check them to make sure all the connections are good and stuff...sorry for the inaccurate discription, ill give you a picture asap.

lol i just got fed up with it and somehow got it to run long enough to take it to a shop to get it looked and, and just get it fixed for winter. get the heat going, make sure it'll run, check for this noise under the car and stuff anyways yah its sitting in the shop now lol
