I always see these mustangs where the turbos are so damn loud. Like you hear it even when the car is idleing, and then when it starts to rev up its louder than the actual engine, can someone tell me about these turbos, like are they just monster turbos? twin turbos? I wanted to look into buying one....

are you sure you are not hearing a supercharger?cuz turbos do not make noise while at idle.

Yeah maybe its just a giant super charger, although I hear big super chargers every day and it doesnt make the noise im thinking of.

if you are talking of the gear wine it is the supercharger they also whistle at times.it is the air moving that is the whistle (most of the time this is on boost) the wine is just that it is gear wine.the gears are inside the blower and step up the shaft speed to the propeller(or what ever you call it).that way the shaft can turn 1 time and the propeller can turn 4 times. some superchargers dont make the big gear wine.

A turbo is a type of supercharger. I'm gonna have to agree with them though on the sound though. I've only heard 1 turbo car that I could hear @ idle, but it was FAR from stock making a very low "shhhhhh" when idling. The car you heard may have also had a vacuum leak which would make a sound & idle & get louder as it revs. There is a v6 Dodge Shadow & a naturally asperated V6 Eclipse that do it in a town near me.
