oil pressure is slowly creeping down
I have a higher milage 5.0 and im having some issues atleast I think, with the oil pressure reading low according to the dash gauge. I havent gotten to check the pressure, But I do believe its getting lower.
yesterday it was one notch up from the 0 mark but it was in the normal area just low. I was in allot of traffic doing stop and go driving and it was makeing a ticking noise sounded in the valvetrain..
My old 2.9L bronco2 used to do this when it got hot and they were notorious for not getting allot of oil flow to the top makeing the tick.
Heres my plan... I need to ATLEAST get 6 more months out of this engine and be able to trust it. I do plan on building a new one... But I need to get the rest of the car up to par and still drive it in between.
Is there a better oil pump I can buy to increase the pressure to normal, What about weights of oil?

RE: oil pressure is slowly creeping down
try a new sending unit first. they are like 10 bones. if that does not do it, try a mechanical gauge. the ticking could just be a valve being that you have a high milage 302 thats not uncommon.

RE: oil pressure is slowly creeping down
not really.. weight of the oil rarely will affect oil pressure.
1) first of all, u need to figure out the ticking.
2) how much is high mileage? ive seen people scared of cars with 100k thinking its "high mileage".. high mileage to me is 200,000+ miles
3) stock gauge is crap. do YOURSELF a favor and buy an autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge and sending unit
goodluck
im going through some problems with my stang right now so i know how it feels
