**make sure the nut at the top of the front struts are tightened all the way down flush against the caster camber plate**
you say when you messed with the plates it helped a little. Make sure that nut is torqued down. Might be smart to check the rears too.
I'm thinking when you turn the wheels and the strut pivits at the spherical bearing, the strut grinds/pops around the spherical bearing instead of moving with the bearing causing the noise. Check that.

Didnt appear to be any play in the ball joint. My fear was that it has gotten a little warped, that is why it would shift some.
I will check those top lugs in the plates.
Anyone know where to get control arm that have the adjustable spring perch/seat? Summit has tube A-arms, but I dont see a spring perch on any of them. I have seen the adjustble one before. But now I can only find the ones for the rear.

i ran into this once at my shop, check to make sure the brake caliper and mount is tight. same thing in this 03 ranger, someone did front brakes, and didnt tighten the caliper bracket completely. Also, to properly check a ball joint on RWD cars, jack it under the control arm, and use a pry bar or something under the tire and lift up on it.

when youcheck the bal joints lower the lower the car on jackstands on the car direcrly under the spring of close to it to check bal joints

It is not the brakes. They would shift when going forward to reverse and visa versa.
I will look more into the ball joints and control arm bushings. But I think thats what it is. Because everything else look fine. I think I am just going to have to do all new bushings, tie rod ends, and control arms, maby even some bearings. That way I leave nothing out. [:'(]

If the steering is shifting on you or if you turn and have very delayed on doesn't turn more then likely its rack n pinion bushings are worn out. Might want to check that out, I've seen it happen a couple of times. It might not even be noticable when you shake the front end down but bad enough that the steering will shift.
