rmodel65 said it best. Dont sand the plastics! Any typ of oily stuff on the stuff will prevent adhesion of paint. I am paint my enterior also. But my car is mostly gutted. I am using Duplicolor acrylic. It is bendable and chip resistant. Thats what you need for plastics.

acrylic enamels arent very chip resistant although they are scratch resistant, a urethane single stage would be a better choice or a bc/cc for the most protection

It is what the respected Duplicolor makes for interior trim. There is always better, but it usually dont come in a can somewhere where most can buy it.
