how would a high compression motor and a carb do?
hey guys how would a high compression motor and a carb do, or is it better to go with a efi. i would like to have this car only for three times a week drive. i would like to build a high compression 357 or 393. i would like to have a carb, becuase i prefer to have a carb but if worst comes worst i will take efi. sowhat do yiou guys think?
what is a nice compression rati oto run on a all motor setup, i was thinking about 11-12?
thanks guys

I would go with a carb simply because their easy to tune and can make more power than EFI, and its alot cheaper too.
If you plan on running pump gas I would stick with 11 to 1 with aluminum heads. You would probably see a 100 hp increase going with 13-14 to 1 on race gas over a pump gas 11 to 1 motor.
If you go with EFI on a 360-400 ci motor you will need a custom tune. Hello $800-1000.00 tune

Half a compression point wont make any real noticable increase in power, Mabey 10 at the most. You can run 11.5.1 with aluminum heads and 93 octane. However you would have to either run some kind of good octane booster or back the timing off some which will lose you power.
I Have 11.5.1 compression and you to run 93 and 1 can of NOS "Race" Octane booster with 15* timing and had no pings or knocks. Now I run a 93/110 mix because I bascialy use my car for the track, but it got me an extra 20 rwhp.
I would stick with 11 to 1, run 93 and have a good streetable pump gas motor. Trust me, Its a pain to have to have a case of octane booster in your backseat and have to remeber to dump a bottle in everytime you fill it up.
STICK WITH 11 TO 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT

A full point of compression (10:1 to 11:1) will only pick up the power about 4% IF everything is perfect.
I wouldn't go past 10 or 10.5 compression.....
I would stay carbed.......

i dont kno how true this is but i have heard of the 427 sohc which has 12:1 cr run on 93 octane and i think a carb will go better for the track, since it wont be ur dd, but u mite be able to get away wit 12:1 on 93 or 94 octane but it wont run to its most potential unlesss u use race gas
and go with the 357 i seen them run 9's n/a b4 it was sick
