Shell Rotella Oil For Breaking In New Motor?

I am putting a new motor in my car from DSS and they recommend using Shells Rotella oid to break it in for the first thirty min of having the car started.. Why is that? Isnt that a diesil oil?

yeah its used for the diesils i work at a shell station. i guess they want a real thick oil to make sure everything seals right the first time

It has to do with some additives in the oil. Comp cams recommends doing the same thing when installing one of there cams for break in.

wow this is strange; back in the day we would always break our motors in with straight 30W.

i own a landscape company and i run that stuff in every piece of equipment i own, and have for 15 plus years great oil.
