Priming the engine 302 stroked to 347
Okay I've been working on my car(88 mustang T-Topped with a 347 stroker supercharged....ect) for a long time now trying to do everything I can to make this puppy rawr. I've had recently built and stroked engine in the car for quite some time now and never got around to priming the engine (zero miles on it never been started or had oil in it). Every once in a while i turn the motor over by hand at the main pully to make sure nothing locks up. When the motor was built for me the eternals were well greased because the fact of the matter was I wasnt going to have this thing up and running within the next week. So where im confused is appearently I took the distributer out of the top of the engine before the last time I turned it over by hand and it seems like I have about a 1/8th inch gap between the distributer and the engine block when I put the distributer back in. I know that in order for the distributer to drop in correctly the motor must be at tdc. If im not mistaking tdc is at the end of the compression stroke on cylinder 1. But for some reason I still have this 1/8th" gap going on. I dont remember if this is normal or if I may have done something wrong or need to fix something. A buddy of mine "says" that theres a bushing or spacer of some sort at the bottom of the hole where the distributer goes in and I may have knocked it out of place. I don't want to say he is wrong but im not sure if he is right so im not going to tear down my motor to try and figure this out without a few opinions of some of you seasoned vets of the mustang world. Please let me know what you guys think know or experianced I know pretty much everything done to this car because about 95% of it was done by me besides the motor and information would be of great appreciation.

The reason I ask is because I dont want to prime the motor then have to drain it and rip it down in a oily mess so if I need to make adjustments or something I'd like to do it b4 priming

what you need it the primer tool or and old gutted dist to put your dill on to turn the oil pump or, you can pull the coil wire and pull the fuel fuse and turn the engine over which it about 100 rpm's til you see the oil gauge move

well since you have to pull the disty out again to prime the engine, there is no harm in taking a look to see if its properly lubricated or if the gasket between the disty and block is still in good shape

push down harder and turn clockwise to seat the cam and dizzy gears. also the oil seal on the dizzy may need lube, or debris is on the seat for it.
