Does anyone know of a to keep the engine from turning over while trying to get the harmonic balancer off? I put a broom handle between the block & the crankshaft & it broke the broom handle. Any other ideas? I can't fit a piece of wood in there, there isn't enough room.

You almost always have to use an air powered impact gun. Have you tried a steel pipe? Just make sure you wrap a rag or something arond it so you dont dent anything.

I didn't have any problems on the old 305... (My neighbor's car). But yeah, an impact wrench would def. help!

See if a local shop will just do it for you (they should do it for free)

Acer2428, I had a harmonic balancer puller. & I don't want to carry my 302 to a shop nor do I wan't to load it into a car. Besides as the saying goes "If you don't tighten the bolts yourself it's not yours," which is why I don't let anyone work on my car. The only exception I'll make is if I CAN'T do it. Monch, The engine is out of the car & apart from the transmission. It was a bare block with the crankshaft, water pump, & HB. 88PatrolCar, I used an aluminum cheater bar & managed to break it loose.

LOL. I was watching on tv, I'm not sure if it was Discovery, TLC, or something like that, that if everyone got in their car & took off in the same direction (lets say west) then the earths rotation would speed up & if they took off east the earth's rotation would slow down. We should do this & get all of our friends to contribute. Lets make the earth rotate backwards. How weird would that be. [sm=interesting.gif]
