i cant something with the motor heat is making the paint on the hood turn a lil bit and it looks horrible at night

Can you just sand it down somewaht smooth? You are going to cover it, and that dyno mat wont come off. The heat will help it stick even more.

what grid sand paper and would it be better to wet sand it?

I would think something a little rough, like a 240 or something(by hand so you don't heat it up) Any I would just do it dry, but to each their own....you don't wanna get that crap on you engine(water and grit) from sanding.
