86 4 banger to V8
Just bought a 86 4 cylinder with the 4 speed transmission. I am going to put a 302 from a 68 mustang along with thec4 tranny it in. Motor and tranny from my previous mustang, both rebuilt now. Question is, will I need a kit to mount the trani in there or should I just weld in a transmission mount, or is there even a kit for that. Also not sure what rear end was in those cars need to look at it but I think the easiest way to do this is to just have my drive line shortened. I have read a few other posts on here about the suspension in the back, any more comments on whether not I can go stock or should I just spend the money and get the extra's put in? Thanks for any help or advice

have searched a little but most of them are the 86 up fox body, I am not sure what is different if the underside is the same then I will just go off a few of those threads.

U should have the 7.5 rearend thats what came in all 4 cylinders and V8s until 1986 then Ford upgraded to the 8.8 for the V8 cars.If I were u I would just try to find a V8 fox donor car instead of trying to frankenstein the drivetrain u already have it will b much less of a headache and u'll have all the parts u already need to convert and they will actually b made for ur car.

RE: 86 4 banger to V8
So what you are saying is that if I just grab the underside, driveline and rearend of a5.0foxbody 83-93then I can throw it in the 4 banger and be just fine? Am I correct in saying that, if so then I can do that easy there are a few donor cars I can grab off of.

It's true to try and keep the entire drive train of one design,
I have an '86 ext cab ranger body, '89 SEFI HO block, ZF trans, custom drive-line and 8.8 rear.
I have a bit of a special case due to wanting to retain the stock transfer-case due to frame clearance.
My rear end is out of a '98 explorer explorer to get the disk brakes, One thing you may have to do is flip the spring mounts as I did due to under mount springs on the explorer. I think mustang is the same. Just think out you shock and sway bar mounts if you so choose.
Engine mount and trans support kits are available but I found it cheaper to build my own and use off shelf mounts. (actually my trans support came with the lift kit, i just modified and mounted where I wanted)
There is many other things to keep in mind while going through you process, I honestly cant remember all the hiccups that I have encountered through my retro but I can assure you there will be many.
Just be patient, plan on building or modifying many small items to get them where you want to go, and enjoy you project.
Good Luck...

RE: 86 4 banger to V8
Pretty much all parts on a fox are interchangable through all of the years. 1986-1993 5.0s had the 8.8 rearend and thatll go right in. I dont know what you mean by the underside and driveline. If your talking about the tranmission, yeah any trans that came out of a fox will work in any other fox.
