Default Severe Wiring Probs.

Well guys , other than my car overheating on the way to the muffler shop because of a bad water pump, here are the main issues with my car so far.

No Back-up lights yet , No water temp guage , No fuel level guage , No Oil Pressure guage , No tach , and no turn signals ( Found that out after getting on the stinking highway and almost getting ran over).

Does anyone have any experience with getting the guages to work after a EFI to Carb swap?? Please help i gotta get this thing going by tomorrow morning .The most important things are the turn signals, tach, and Water temp guage. I have an aftermarket Oil press guage. I am putting in a new Water pump right now but I need the water temp guage to see if iI got everything working good.

The tach and coolant temp need a ground, power and the signal wire from the sensor(for the temp) and a wire from the coil for the tach. As far as the turn signals you'll need a wiring diagram from a haynes manual to do any good.

Ok cool. I'll try it out tomorrow and see what happens. As far as the turn signlas we have no idea why they don't work. Everyone I've talked to says they should still work even if we have messed around with the guage harness. Maybe i should check the fuses.

Well I am goin to get an aftermarket tach for sure this next week. I called my dad a few minutes ago and he already bought a water temp guage at advance auto. The only reason I want to fix the guages I have is I would rather keep everything looking clean and stock rather than lots of guages mounted everywhere and have holes all over my dash if I ever takes the guages out. The tach I planned on getting anyways , but the other guages I prefer having stock. I am pretty sure I can get this stuff working when I get home tonight. I have been looking around for info on the web and I think I might have enough to get some of the guages going. I have to be at the muffler place at 10:30 tommorrow so I hope I can get the water temp and tach working before I leave. I have an aftermarket oil pressure guage on it already and its working fine. The biggest thing that sucks is the turn signals! I don't know why they aren't working , hopefully a fuse. They dont work off the guage harness do they? I dont think they do.

We got an aftermarket water temp guage now, and I think i got the oil pressure guage hooked up right.I have to wait until tomorrow to check though because it is really late right now. Also I think the fuel guage is working too , I just didn't have much gas in it so it looked lke it wasn't working. We put some in it and it reads 1/4 tank now.

which wire comes from the harness to the tach? There is a grey wire with a red stripe that comes from the harness, its used to have a "Y" in it that went to the 2 coil packs from the old 4 cylinder. should i cut the "y" off and run the one wire to the coil?

For your aftermarket tach, you'll just need to run one wire from the negative side of the coil. The best advice I can tell you is to get a manual with a wiring diagram of that year car and follow the wires from the turn signal back to make sure everything is hooked up fine. The book will also help you identify the correct wires to hook up your gauges.

Turn signals work now. It was a fuse we think. Its funny , we replaced some blown fuses last night and it didnt help , then this morning I tried them again and they worked? Wierd .I also got the Oil pressure and fuel lvl guages to work fter messing with the wiring for a whil last night. The aftermarket Water temp guage looks good so I think I'll stick with it. I'm going to get a tach next week for sure.

Well we found the wire to the tach and run it to the negative on the coil. It looks like it works but it kinds bobs alittle. I mean it kinds wobbles alittle . It seems to be right or close to it. I still have to have someone go drive next to me so I can see if my speedo is reading correctly.
