Default E-Brake

So this morning, i park my car at school, yank up the brake, and it doesnt click. Matter of a fact, i could move the handle side to side. SO, i take off the consol to check everything out. You know that bolt that holds the brake onto the floorpan? Yea, that bolt is worthless now. There is a GIANT hole where the bolt is supposed to grab. What can I do??? As for now, im leaving the car in gear to prevent it from rolling away....

Is the any way to dril it all the way thru and use a longer bolt and put a nut on it w/ a lock washer. You could also use a tap and a bigger bolt if the hole is'nt too large.

The hole is pretty freakin big. I was thinking about laying some kind of sheet metal over it, but i have no welding experience, nor the tools to do so. If anyone has any experience w/ this problem, advice would be appreciated... I've never heard of this happening before!

Is there any way to put a plate across the hole and just bolt the plate in several spots to the existing metal and then put your main bolt hole in the new plate.

That is what im thinking of doing. It would have to be a pretty small piece of metal though, and what kind should i use? Is there any electrical under there?

I would go either 1/8 or 1/4 inch thicker may be better, may not rip, just did the same to my hood latch. messed my new headlights up too.
