Ok so...
I just bought a 1984 mustang GT and it has a knocking noise in the engine, however the owner i bought it from said that it only started knocking after they had a clutch installed professionally. I can vouche for this as i saw and heard it running great the week prior to getting the clutch installed. So could the people there really have ruined the engine or is there something wrong with the clutch they put in?

Does it knock all the time? In all gears? In neutral? You sure they didn't touch the engine? Where is the sound coming from? Need answers
But, there is no way that a clutch upgrade could make the motor knock

Why start two threads about this only 2 days apart [&:] You asked this question the day before you bought the car, and got several answers from folks in here. Now you've bought it, so you must not have been worried then Knock or no knock I think the price was right for a rare project car like the GT350 Vert.
If it were me I would would want to spend a winter with it in the garage and either do a full rebuild or put a different 5.0 in it that has already been refurbed. While the engine is out I would make sure the clutch and tranny are good, and freshen up the engine bay with some paint! Ofcourse you just bought it and summer is on the way
Enjoy the car man, long live the FOUR EYES

Yeah currently its in my backyard with a cover over it...(dad didnt want it in his garage, probably cus its so much cooler than his 1973 super beetle that it was sitting next to) Im thinking about getting an engine rebuild kit and having my neighbor whos a mechanic help me rebuild the engine. An engine rebuild kit at autozone was running around 400 dollars, so if this car can be fixed to running condition with just 400 dollars than this was one good deal.

Latemodel Restoration (50resto.com)will be your friend when it comes time to refurb the exterior, interior and top.
Does your car still have the factory TRX wheels (metric size 3 spoke design)? If so those tires are hard to find, but they are out there. If you have them, and decide to swap them out just be sure to keep them for the future should you ever decide to sell. It will most likely bring you more money down the road if the car is nicely refurbed and still has the original TRX's.
If you are unsure what I am talking about, here is a great pic with 3 of them - one has newer model bullits, one has original TRX's and the middle one has polished out TRX's. Sweet cars IMO
