Default 87 GT price

Congratulate me, I just got a Mustang. The bad news, my Mom dumped it on me and told me it was my problem.

It's an '87 GT 5.0, convertible, 65k original miles, garage kept, and almost entirely original. Still has the factory tape deck and equalizer. White leather, blue int. carpet and trim. Ext, white, gray trim, black strip, gray ground effects. Pretty much every known option, including, (unfortunately,) automatic transmission. Body and interior perfect, everything works.

The problem I have is that she's given it to me because the dealership quoted her at $3400 to repair the problems it has. I haven't seen the printed quote yet, but will take it to a friend at a dealership who has time to compare the car to the quote. Repairing the problems Mom was able to relate to me doesn't sound like anything technically out of my grasp, but her first inclination was to sell it.

I priced it, trying to talk her out of it, only to find out that it's only got a retail market of about $3k according to NADA, Kelly and CarMax if there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I think the mechanic's on crack for a PS Leak, vacuum leak, and valve cover gaskets for $3400, but that may not be all that's on the written report; it was all Mom could remember.

But $3000 is all the car's worth? In perfect condition? Is that right? Am I delusional, or are the guys at NADA, Kelly and CarMax out of their $%$#ing heads? One quote was for trade at $1950! That seems ridiculous to me when I can't find a 1980 1/2 ton truck for under $2k in the paper.

Thanks,
Loki

What I was able to get out of her was engine mounts, valve cover leaks, poss vacuum leaks and a power steering leak. Maybe more, but haven't seen the write up yet. See it when I pick the car up in a day or two.

Around here that car would sell between $3500 and $6500.
