Default fox body problems

My friend has a 93 GT 5.0 with a problem that we cant figure out. The problem is when he gives it gas their is a strange popping nosie sounds like its coming from the passenger side of the motor. When you get on it start to make a popping noise. We put in a 2.5 H-PIPE thinking that the cats were pluged but that didn't fix the problem. Starting to drive us crazy is there anything else we can try?

does it still have the smog pump on it. if it is disconnected or leaking it will make a noise like that as well.

Yes but really all you need to do is run a different belt and bypass it.

Ive still got mine hooked up for now but might be eliminating it when I change the heads.

Yes they do, 60 to 80 bucks for a delete kit, or use a shorter belt, I have heard. Best way to figure out the smog pump is to plug the hose coming out of the head, take the serpentine belt off and run the motor for a very short period of time.
