what does this wire do?

RE: what does this wire do?
Look at the alternator, bonehead. LOL. There are little letters molded into the plastic on the regulator and letters cast into the aluminim housing by the other plug. If you have an '89 like your screen name implies... (why doesn't anyone give info on the car before asking questions anymore?)... then the green wire you are asking about should be the stator wire... so there will be an "S" in line with the plug. S=stator...A=amp meter in dash.... I=ignition.

Take a pic of it, print it out, take it to an auto parts store and see if they can get it. If not, start looking in the junkyards... should be plenty to be found. Oh, and when you do get a new one, make sure you solder the wires... don't just crimp them. There, I was nice this time.

green is almost always if not always a ground wire... so without a picture or a diagram.. and since im unable to look at my own since im at school my guess its a ground wire.... on car ground is also black to.. cuz its not an earth ground its a nuetral ground or return ground so its a really unsure guess
