Yes you can put it in backwards but most themostats are labeled on the side with something like to radiator, If i remember correctly the side with the point should be facing the radiator, but i'm not positive. As for the issue of the head gasket when mine was bad I had no change with rpm and the car would run abs. fine with no oil in the coolent or coolent in the oil. The only problem was putting too much pressure in the system which was forcing the radiator cap open and allowing the coolent to be pushed into the over flow. If you know you radiator cap is good and it is still forcing coolent past the cap its prob. a head gasket issue.

i havent noticed any white stuff anywhere, and my thermostat was in the right way. i am running 50/50 coolant, the radiator is new. i have no idea what it is, my friend said maybe the belt was on the pump backwards not letting it pump the water just spin the opposite way. i will check the belt when i get home but i kinda am thinking its a head gasket problem now. thanks guys for all the info and help. does anyone have a pic of the belt path for my 95? thanks again

i am going to pressure test it as soon as i can get my hands on a pressure tester. i am going to take all the plugs out and test it and if i get coolant in my cylinders i know its a head gasket. thats really all i can come up with for now

for the head gasket you'll need both head gaskets, lower intake manifold to cylinder head gaskets you'll also need the cork strips to seal the lower intake, lower intake gasket, upper intake gasket, throttle body gasket, themostat gasket, exhaust manifold gaskets, a tube of RTV, a tube of thread sealer, new head bolts (do not reuse old head bolts), throttle body elbow gasket. I'm sure i've missed some, I did head gaskets with a kenne bell on top so i didn't have an upper intake so i might have missed something
