Smoke on startup
I have about1000 miles on my engine rebuild. I've noticed I'm pushing smoke out the exhaust during startup. My co-builder says it normal until the engine breaks in and rings set. I'm don't notice any performance loss but I'm considering rechecking the compression. I checked at about 300 miles and everything seemed okay. Is it normal to push a little smoke until 2,500 - 5,000 miles?

RE: Smoke on startup
I don't think that's normal. Most of the time cars smoke on startup because the valve seals are leaking and oil slowly drips into the combustion chamber when the car is off. Think about what he is saying...when you buy a new car does it smoke? Why should your new engine smoke? Is your valvetrain also new?
