head question
i have a pair of old heads from a 88 gt 302w, and i was wondering besides replacing the goodies on them (lifters.. etc...) what would i have to do to be able to put these on my 1985 f250-351w in my truck (carbed) i hear you have to get diffrent bolts and bore them out. but other than that i want to do the sawp since my heads are pinging like crazy in my truck

RE: head question
Heads dont cause pinging. Either your timing is totally off, the gas youre using is total garbage or too low octane. I bet its a combination of the 2, put some better gas in there and see if it goes away.

RE: head question
actually the gas i use is garbage, my heads were designed for lead gas and since it costs about 3 bucks per tank my dad decided to stop using it in 1986 so i guess years of unleaded gas would attribute to to it

RE: head question
wow, im sorry dude i wish you knew more about what your talking about[&:]
all engines made after the mid 70's were setup to run the crappy unleaded low octane stuff we find at the pump today.
your 85 truck heads are going to be E5TE castings, which are IDENTICAL to the E7TE heads found on the 88 302 you have (with the exception of the head bolt holes being drilled slightly larger for the 351 bolts.
changing the heads will do absolutely NOTHING for you. if you are pinging, try a complete tun up and either adjust your timing or change your timing chain (it maybe stretched and worn to the point where it is contributing to the advanced timing/pinging condition.
if you dont wanna go that route, man up and pay another 3.00 to fill up with premium instead of crap gas. do the math at approx .20 a gallon more than cheap stuff times the number of gallons used to fill it and the difference is probably 3 to 4 dollars which is not gonna kill your wallet
