yes steel can be welded to cast its called disimilar welding, this i know being a certified speciality welder and certified welding inspector for 12 years now. as far as the block cracking under welding stress the way to stop this would be to preheat the block before welding and peen the weld deposit each pass and finally post weld heat treat the finished product. which you are not setup nor experienced enough to perform. the only way you wont weaken the block is to apply weld metal overlay to the area that you plan to weld by atleast 2 times the weld deposition area. in other words buy a damn dart block and be done with it.
should just have said this part instead of writing that long *** post

nitrous oxide is good but it wont gove you a 100% or more power boost. at best 70%-80% is the most power you will gain before you see incomplete atomization and mixture with the incoming charge. its a great way to case a backfire.

car craft took a stock 5.0 motor and all the nitrous it could use was a 175shot. anymore and the motor couldnt keep up. it couldnt physically ingest that much fuel/air. rember n20 takes up space, if you have a big ol cork in the engine adding nitrous wont have that great of an effect, if the motor was capable of more airflow there would be a much more pronounced gain.

to make use of a 400shot you would need to make more power n/a than the block would hold.

i concure you need a dart block, r302, or man-o-war
